Get prepared for a lifetime experience in the island of Corfu!

Corfu is considered the Emerald island of the Ionian, due to its large expanses of green landscapes, its turquoise shores, it’s green grotta (also known to us as our dear Mayor La Grotta Verde). As such, Spring is an all time favourite season, as it breathes life into our hills, our gardens, our countrysides, reminding us of Summer with every day that passes. Finally, April is here, and we are eager to delve into the daily comings and goings of hospitality that we so much enjoy!
Our Corfu town hotel, the exceptional Mayor Mon Repos Palace “Art Hotel” (above) has been open since March, kicking off the Mayor Hotels 2017 season, and already loving it. If you are planning on spending your Easter in Corfu, you will be able to experience the Greek Easter customs taking place during the Holy Week between 2nd - 8th April.
Apart from the specific Corfiot celebrations during Easter that you should get involved in, such as the smashing of clay pots called mpotides, households dye Easter eggs red, and together with the bakeries are busy preparing all the goodies to be enjoyed from Holy Saturday onwards: Easter cookies (koulourakia), tsourekia (sweet milk bread) are the most typical Easter treats common to the whole of Greece, but in Corfu specifically, we also make an even more special kind of tsoureki we call fogatsa. Good Friday is the saddest, most mournful day of the week where it is common practice to follow the Epitaph in an evening procession, however, this ‘sadness’ is lifted on the next day, Holy Saturday. Everyone gathers around the church before midnight, awaiting the jubilant “Christos Anesti” sermon, announcing Christ’s Resurrection, followed by colourful fireworks, and the sharing of the Holy Light from candle to candle. Upon returning, families enjoy a special light dinner, in anticipation of the feast of feasts the next day, with unrestricted eating, drinking and dancing.
Our wonderful, family friendly resort of Mayor Capo Di Corfu (below) opens its doors to welcome its guests on the 29th of April, promising endless moments of family fun across our modern and fitting facilities.
The enchanting Mayor Pelekas Monastery (below) resort will have to patiently wait until the 1st May, as will the aforementioned Mayor La Grotta Verde (further below) before they can be your hosts for yet another incredible summer!
