The highlight of August at Mayor Hotels & Resorts was the Mayor Music Festival which we proudly sponsored. Having taken place on Friday 17th of August in the the port of Lefkimmi, Corfu, this music festival sought to promote the cultural aspect of the region in an area that is not particularly known for its entertainment happenings and activities. The event was a great success, marked by an over satisfying turnover of people. Entrance was free since the event had a distinct communitarian character which was appreciated and embraced by all who took part in the festival, whether it was the performers, or the audience.
The festival began with the amazing Municipal Philharmonic Thinalion procession, which was very fitting as Corfu has a long standing tradition in music and specifically in orchestra bands, which perform on special occasions frequently. Next up was Mr. Aris Kampanos, followed by Ms. Ioanna Vlachou, who makes regular appearances at our Mayor Mon Repos Palace Art Hotel in Corfu Town. She was joined on stage by Mr. Spiros Pandis and together they performed a few classic tracks. At this point, the crowd began to feel the pulse of the passionate musicians and got carried away by their enthusiasm and brio. This paved the way for renowned Greek artists of Ms. Lena Alkaiou, then Ms. Penny Baltatzi and finally great Ms. Pitsa Papadopoulou. Each artist brought her own personal pizazz, flair and charisma, transmitting their positive energy to the audience at which point various people from the crowd started to dance and sing along, while others were eager to give their favourite artist a hug.
The Municipal Philharmonic Thinalion joined Ms. Pitsa Papadopoulou and accompanied her in the final songs on stage. This was an especially touching moment and the audience seemed to be overwhelmed by the emotion that both artist and band brought to their performances. The rest of the artists joined in to conclude what was an incredible evening of fun, entertainment and high spirits. To end the festival on a spectacular note, fireworks were released into the night sky which enthused everyone. When the festival was over, the artists and organisers spent some time socialising with guests as well as giving interviews about participating in this festival and the importance of such initiatives. We wish to thank each and every one who participated, either as a performer, organiser or spectator, and we want to express our gratitude for being able to give back to our community, as the benefactors of such a wonderful cause.
