Get prepared for a lifetime experience in the island of Corfu!
A new season brings with it winds of change. Post summer in Greece is one of the most enjoyable seasons, due to three very fundamental reasons that make travel experiences all the more pleasant. The weather is still pretty mild, the crowds are evidently less while the Autumn atmosphere is laced with a sweet melancholy that couples especially will find appealing. Corfu is so diverse that it is capable of offering a plethora of amazing Autumn moments to be had.
1) Mild weather
The climate of the Mediterranean has a handful of advantages. Summers are not too hot while the winters are mild, and the shoulder seasons of Spring and Autumn are an absolute delight. Spring is slightly trickier, as it is the successor of winter. The skies are gradually becoming clearer while the sun begins to grow...teeth. For most, swimming in the Spring is not an easy task as the sea has not warmed up following the winter temperatures, but Autumn, well that is a different story altogether. The Summer sun has been blasting down on the seas for a consecutive 3 months, gathering warmth that is maintained throughout Autumn. Therefore, a beach holiday could still be an option in Autumn! For this reason, our seaside resorts of Mayor Pelekas Monastery, Mayor La Grotta Verde as well as Mayor Capo Di Corfu are still open til the end of October!
2) Less crowds
As Greece is universally known as a summer destination, the majority of travellers visit during the summer months. This means that Autumn in Corfu is less crowded which makes for an even more enjoyable experience. There are less queues to enter the iconic landmarks of old Corfu town, and if its not queues you will be avoiding its the general hustle and bustle brought about the buzz that is created when many people convene in one place. And old Corfu town, where our Mayor Mon Repos Palace Art Hotel is located, has many things to see. It counts two impressive Venetian fortresses, at least three palaces and a number of historic mansions, a castle and numerous museums to peruse at your own pace. Autumn is a time of leisure as everything begins to slow down, in preparation for the more sombre winter season.
3) Autumn atmosphere
Autumn is a special season, imbued with a sweet melancholy that ignites wistful feelings of yearning, of nostalgia, of memories. A perfect season to recuperate from the intensity of summer, or its otherwise more languid moments, it is a season to reflect upon and set new goals for the future. Romance flourishes during this time, as couples especially love to spend moments together revelling in the unique sensation of feeling like the only two people in the world. There is nothing simpler yet more priceless than a long hike on a scenic trail with your other half in absolute quiet, so you can sense the pulse of nature’s heart. Corfu offers a number of trails that will reveal incredible landscape views that are slowly being covered in a veil of warm Autumn colours, while a crisp breeze caresses your cheek. For those who are not so outdoorsy, a casual stroll around the esplanade of Corfu town during Autumn is equally enchanting.
