Visit the top 5 villages of Corfu and discover our beautiful island for which we feel blessed calling home. Known locally as the Lady of the Ionian, Corfu is graceful, elegant, diverse and on more than one occasion, absolutely stunning. Corfu town is perhaps the most well known location on the island, what with all its sophisticated past since it used to be a poll of attraction for the aristocrats in 19th century, when the Ionian islands were under British rule. Apart from the capital of the island, Corfu has a lot more to show for. There are many other locations that are definitely worth visiting while on your holiday in Corfu island. In fact, we have shortlisted some places which we feel you should definitely check out, that reveal the true diversity behind Corfu. So make arrangements to visit the top 5 villages of Corfu island and prepare to be amazed!

1) Top 5 villages in Corfu: Sidari
About 37 km north west of Corfu town, is a coastal settlement called Sidari, boasting perhaps the most striking scenery in all of the island. Azure waters meet limestone pillars creating strange, almost lunar rock formations of bizarre shapes, having been eroded by the centuries of the sea’s ebb and flow. The stunning beaches of Sidari are the main reason for tourist attraction in the area; the village itself is not something particularly special and justifiably comes second to the highlight of Sidari which is none other than its mind-blowing scenic coast, home to the famous Canal D’Amour which is a narrow waterway beach between two landscape rises.

2) Top 5 villages in Corfu: Pelekas
For the best sunset in Corfu, 13 km west of Corfu town, the village and seaside of Pelekas village tops the list. The Kontogialos beach of Pelekas is the home of our Mayor Pelekas Monastery resort. It has been awarded with a blue flag and visitors can bask in phenomenal sunset views where the sun can be seen dipping into the sea, leaving behind a colourful canvas of orange, pinks and purples in the sky. The village of Pelekas which is further away from the beach on an elevated plain, boasts the Kaiser’s Throne site that commands incredible panoramic views of the evergreen landscape below leading up to the glistening sea.

3) Top 5 villages in Corfu: Palaia Peritheia
For discovering one of the (much) lesser known villages of Corfu, be sure to visit that of Palaia Peritheia around 40 km north west of Corfu town. The somewhat abandoned, old Venetian part of the settlement of Palaia Peritheia will charm you in an almost haunting way. The ruins of the various structures will move you in a strangely seductive way, reminding you of an elusive, ghost town. For a brief history of the village, it was once considered to be an incredibly pious place, with 8 churches and chapels to show for. Palaia Peritheia has a picturesque little square where you can stop to enjoy a traditional coffee or light lunch.

4) Top 5 villages in Corfu: Lefkimi
On the south eastern coast of the island, around 41,5 km from Corfu town, you will reach Lefkimi, where our Mayor Capo di Corfu is located along Agios Petros beach. This verdant, port settlement is one of the most traditional in Corfu, with stone houses and cobblestone alleyways making up the fabric of this picturesque village. Lefkimi is best known to Corfiots as being a protected area due to its naturally occurring salt lakes that harbour many endangered bird species. You will be surprised to know that flamingos live there, so a day out with the children to see the wild birds in their natural habitat is one of the more rewarding activities to do in the region.

5) Top 5 villages in Corfu: Perivoli
Near the aforementioned Lefkimi, Perivoli village lies 35 km south of Corfu town, and is another quaint, traditional farming village to saunter around. There you can expect to be greeted by laid-back locals going about their daily routine, amidst an environment of absolute rural tranquility. Venetian architecture, colourful, whitewashed houses, little tavernas and community shops, paved roads, vineyards, olive groves paint a unique picture of local village life with a charm that appears as if from another decade. Combining a visit to both Perivoli (which literally translates to orchard) and Lefkimi is a great recommendation for families staying at Agios Petros, at our seaside family resort in Corfu.
